from RAILWAY MODELLER December 1989
Latest in the line of modern kits from Taylor Plastic Models, this production - in conjunction with Graham Farish, upon whose chassis the model is placed - can be assembled in a variety of ways. The kit principally represents the 1970/71 built SAA steel carrier, developed as a bolster wagon, crane runner or container carrier amongst several.
The finely moulded plastic kit comes complete with the GF chassis, and many extra parts; the folding stanchions can be reproduced in model form with care. Two kits are available; one No.620 to cover the early types (SAA/KTA/RRB) and the other, No.621 for the later rebuilds and modifications (RRA/RRB/ZEA). This kit should find a ready home in any Railfreight context.

info:
400000-400249,
built 1970-1.
Designed as a multi-purpose steel carrier with
fold-down stanchions and ends and turnover bolsters. Another 50 very
similar wagons (400250-299) were also built. From early in their
careers they were the subject of various rebuilds for particular
steel traffic. The 40 KTAs were a modification for tarpaulin covered,
palleted steel coils used from 1975 to 1984. These wagons have often
been used as runners (RRA, RRB) for overhanging loads on BDA bogie
bolsters. Over the years many have been rebuilt with new bodywork.
Those modified to RUSSELL coal container flats are covered by our kit
ref:631.
