631 FPA + 'RUSSELL' coal container, aluminium type

Plastic body kit with TPM/Farish 600 chassis and cast whitemetal open frame weight. As moulded the container carrying frames represent the original batch rebuilt from SAAs, but they can be altered to represent the later batch rebuilt from VCA wagons. A pair of printed 'RUSSELL' stickers are included in the kit, but a full set of transfers are available from C-RAIL: 2mm transfer set no.7 (Cawoods/British Fuels/Russell).

Russell coal container for N

Taylor Plastic Models have released their latest kit; an FPA flat with Russell coal container (also available separately). The container kit builds up into a fine model of the 30' prototype, used for the swift transport of coal from English and Welsh collieries to Gartcosh in Scotland. Occasionally, rock salt or sugar beet loads are carried also. They are also used on road trailers and stacked in yards in the normal way. They would be eminently suitable for any mid-80s to date layout, and would look quite spectacular in a block train.

Rebuilt from surplus wagons to carry special low-height coal containers for J.G.Russell of Gartosh, Scotland. These can be either loaded direct onto waiting lorries for distribution, or stacked for storage. A useful illustrated article covering these wagons appeared in Model Railways, November 1989.
