review in MODEL RAIL Spring 1998

Another DRS Class 20 in 'N' - and this time it's brass!

Left: This kit is more detailed than the BH Enterprises conversion, but uses etched brass, rather than cast parts. It includes an etched cab back with window frames and wiper arms. There is a replacement resin bonnet front moulding and a pair of cast white metal side tanks. Other etched components include buffer beam overlays and the distinctive light clusters, etched steps, front side handrails and the roof radio aerial pod.

Below: Painting of the replacement parts and the model is best done separately, thereby eliminating much of the masking needed during the repaint. So, for example, I've left the cab rear and replacement nose attached to the card backing and then painted the whole thing warning panel yellow. Likewise the bufferbeam overlays, which were sprayed red before fitting. This, then leaves only the two basic body colours to be applied.

The instructions are really second-to-none for comprehensiveness and they include full drawings of side/end elevations, plus exploded drawings to show how the components fit. Full step by step instructions explain how the whole thing goes together.
